PRESERVING HERITAGE, CELEBRATING CULTURE
At the Gullah Geechee Georgia Museum, we believe that true leadership is rooted in legacy, guided by purpose, and committed to truth. Our leadership team is composed of cultural stewards, historians, educators, and community advocates who bring passion, experience, and vision to the preservation of the Gullah Geechee heritage in Coastal Georgia.
Since the museum’s founding on the sacred grounds of the historic Needwood Baptist Church, our leaders have worked tirelessly to transform a grassroots preservation effort into a thriving cultural institution. Inspired by the strength of our ancestors—some of whom arrived as early as 1526—our leadership is devoted to building a future where Gullah Geechee history is recognized, respected, and rightfully centered in the narrative of American history.
We are proud that our leadership team reflects the very communities we serve. Many of our board members, advisors, and staff are Gullah Geechee descendants or long-time residents of Coastal Georgia with personal ties to Sapelo Island, St. Simons, Brunswick, and the Golden Isles region.
“The story of the Gullah Geechee people is not a footnote in history—it is the foundation of it. We are here to ensure our voices, traditions, and sacred spaces are protected, honored, and passed on. This is more than preservation. It’s a calling.”

We invite you to visit the Gullah Geechee Georgia Museum, support our work, and become part of our mission to keep this powerful cultural heritage alive. Together, we can honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future of Gullah Geechee culture in Georgia.
